Navigating the Mental Health Crisis in Young Adults

May 24, 2011

May is Mental Health Month

At Hopewell, we take every opportunity to educate both our residents and their loved ones about mental health. Some of the coping mechanisms we provide are Cognitive Behavior Therapy (talk therapy focused on the "here and now'"), Dialectical Behavior Therapy (based on Buddhist meditative practice), as well as equine, art and nature therapies all based in a therapeutic community.

Unfortunately, mental health is still shrouded in stigma, leaving some feeling alone and isolated. With so much negativity in the news about lack of services, there are still many local and national organizations providing resources to help.

Beginning more than 50 years ago, May has been designated Mental Health Month. Today, mental health resources are more important than ever. The theme this year is "Get Connected."

So, what can you do to help? Start a conversation, talk about your own struggles, ask a loved one about theirs, or simply become more educated about mental illness. Some local and national resources can be found by following this link. http://www.hopewell.cc/mental-health-resources>
